Pennygum is an ideal base to explore the Southern Drakensberg of South Africa. You will find us only 6.5km from Underberg, on the Drakensberg Gardens Road. Our three garden cottages have a beautiful setting with magnificent views of the mountains and a peaceful country atmosphere. Our Family Cottage sleeps 10 people, Lavender Cottage 2 adults and a small child, and African Dreams Thatch Cottage sleeps 4. All cottages are tastefully decorated and are serviced daily.

We were recently regarded and are now a 3 star self catering establishment. National Star Grading Council of SA.

We were recently chosen as a semi finalist in the 2006 AA Accommodation Awards Program.

Accommodation
All linen and towels are provided. Family Cottage guests must provide their own towels. There are laundry facilities, undercover parking and babysitters. Although security can never be guaranteed, we currently enjoy a peaceful and secure environment, which our guests find very refreshing.

Our Family Cottage is a double storey with its own entrance and garden area. The cottage sleeps 10 and comprises three double bedrooms and a dormitory room in the loft. All beds have electric blankets in winter. The cottage has two bathrooms and a modern open-plan kitchen. The lounge/dining room has an open fireplace and a television with satellite channel. Enjoy a barbeque on the covered verandah.

Our Lavender Cottage is a cozy cottage attractively decorated in this theme and sleeps two adults and a young child. It is fully equipped for self catering and has a shower room. The cottage has television with satellite channel and a music centre. Electric blankets are fitted in winter. The cottage leads out onto a private garden with bench and free standing barbeque.

Our African Dreams Thatch Cottage is tastefully decorated in this theme and sleeps four under the comfort and atmosphere of a thatched roof. It has a double bedroom with en-suite, a second bathroom with corner bath, an open plan lounge with sleeper couch and fireplace and kitchen. It is fully equipped for self catering. There is a television with satellite channel and a music centre, and all beds have electric blankets in winter. The cottage has a covered patio with braai and is nestled under oak trees in its own private garden. The view of Giants Cup from this cottage is breathtaking! This is an ideal honeymoon suite.

We offer personal itineraries for our guests, so that you can make the most of your holiday.

River rafting and Tubing is a very popular activity at Pennygum. Experience the clean mountain water and beautiful scenery. There are trips to suit both the inexperienced and the more adventurous. Subject to enough water, this is something not to be missed! (between R120 – R580 per person depending on choice of adventure)

A trip up Sani Pass into Lesotho is well worth it. Please bring your passports. Cost from R280pp excluding lunch.

Experience a quad bike adventure up Sani Pass and into Lesotho or just take a leisurely ride in the countryside. Rates from R400pp

A good experience is to take a rock art walk and discover the culture and paintings of the Bushmen and the caves they lived in. Half and full day walks are available. (full day is approx. R120-00 pp).

There are numerous hiking trails to choose from into the berg, horse rides in the foothills as well as overnight excursions. 

The Underberg / Himeville area is well known for its trout fishing. Most of the dams in the area are registered with the Underberg Himeville Trout Fishing Club. Bookings can be made once you are in the area.
