Dragon Peaks was originally a caravan and camping ground with cottages being built later to accommodate staff from the Choir School. In 1985 they became founder members of Club Caraville, today known as Caraville Resorts and started with self-catering cottages. Around the same time Rus developed the Mount Champagne Timeshare Resort just up river from Dragon Peaks. The Restaurant and Pub was built in 1995 and the first of the Hotel Suites were erected in 2002. B&B SUITES Luxury Thatched Cottages each with 3 individual Suites. Each Cottage shares a lounge, fireplace and dry bar. Each Suite has a TV, air-con, verandah and both a bath and shower. One double and two twin suites per cottage. Each Suite is 45sqm excluding verandah. The B&B Suites do not have catering facilities and coffee/tea sachets are provided daily. These Suites are situated near the Plett dam and a Giant Kingfisher has made it's home on one of the verandahs overlooking the dam. PADDOCK HOUSE Luxury Thatched Cottage double storey, 4 bedrooms en suite. Oak furnishings, fireplace, underfloor heating, air con, kitchen with oven & hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine. Two double beds and five singles. Each bedroom has it's own TV. 311sqm including verandah and garages. One minute's drive or 5 minutes walk from the Resort and situated inside the horse paddock with a magnificent mountain view and private bass dam in the garden. It's situation means that it enjoys total peace and quiet but is close enough to benefit from the Resort's facilities. PARK HOUSE Luxury Thatched Cottage double storey, 3 bedrooms en suite with bath and shower. One double bed and five singles. Each bedroom has it's own TV. Oak furnishings, fireplace, underfloor heating, aircon, kitchen with oven & hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine. 227sqm including garages. This cottage is centrally situated in the Resort and historically is on the site of the original Reception, Shop and Games Room. COTTAGE NO.3 Thatched Cottage double storey, 3½ bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (master en suite). One double bed and six singles. Kitchen, lounge/dinnette. 160sqm including carport. Situated near the Duck Dam with mountain view. COTTAGE NO.4 Thatched Cottage with Loft, bedroom/lounge, three single beds, kitchen/dinette, bathroom with shower over bath. 45sqm excluding carport. Situated near the Duck Dam with mountain view. COTTAGE NO.5 Thatched Cottage, bedroom/lounge, One double bed, kitchen/dinette, bathroom with shower over bath. 45sqm excluding carport. Situated near the Duck Dam with mountain view. COTTAGE NO.6 Thatched Cottage with 2 bedrooms and a loft, Six single beds, kitchen/dinette/lounge, bathroom with shower over bath. 91sqm. Situated near the Duck Dam with mountain view. DRAKENSBERGS Park Homes each with 2 bedrooms of one double bed and two singles. Bath with hand shower/toilet,kitchen/dinette/lounge. Aircon/heater. 3 of the chalets have both a bunk bed and a single bed in the second bedroom. 40sqm excluding verandah. 17 Chalets situated on three terraces near the Resort's entrance. PLETTENBERGS Park Homes each with 2 bedrooms of one double bed and two singles. Kitchen/dinette/ lounge. Shower/toilet. 30sqm excluding verandah. Some situated between the Plett Dam and Playground, some situated within the Caravan Park towards the Tennis Courts. CARAVILLAS Park Homes similar to large caravans each with a bedroom with a double bed, kitchen/lounge, shower and toilet. 18sqm excluding verandah. 4 Chalets currently situated near the entrance boom by the shop and 1 beside Reception Dam. MOUNTAIN BASE Ideal for special interest groups, the Base is situated over the Sterkspruit River, within walking distance of the Resort, far enough away to feel private but close enough to enjoy all the Resort facilities. Twenty x 2 bed Cabins and three Dormitories sleeping up to 123 people - bedding and towels are not provided and the cabins are not serviced. Communal ablutions consist of 14 toilets, 14 showers and 1 bath - the ablutions are serviced daily. The kitchen is equipped with cutlery, crocker, pots and pans and has one standard fridge, one double door display fridge, one chest deep freeze, ice machine, 6 gas and 3 electric plates, microwave and baine marie. CARAVAN AND CAMPING SITES Caravanners enjoy the same wide open spaces as chalet users with the added benefit that they can store their caravans in our huge storage facility (200+Units). This makes it easy to drop in for a weekend without the hassle of a long tow. Full facilities including braai, TV connection for 1,2,3,e & video channel and electrical points are available on all sites. The sites have a mix of the standard 15amp and new 16amp electrical connections. Both the 16amp connection and television coaxe cables are available for hire or purchase. The 140 sites are serviced by modern ablutions which are heated in winter. Conference facilities make it possible to host groups of up to 100 delegates with a breakaway room seating up to 25 people. Overhead Projectors, VCR, large TV's, White Boards, Flipcharts, wall to wall Carpets, padded Chairs and Airconditioning all go to creating a functional and productive setting for any Conference. .

Facilities

  • Unless otherwise stated, all self catering accommodation is fully equipped with pillows, linen, bath towels, cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, stove, microwave, television, braai, toilet paper, starter pack coffee/tea and serviced daily.

  • The exception is The Mountain Base, where only the ablutions are serviced. The base does not have bath towels, bedding or towels, nor are complimentary coffee/tea starter packs provided.

  • In all circumstances swimming towels are NOT provided.

  • The on-site shop has every essential for casual catering, while our restaurant provides three daily meals or take-out snacks as required

How to get here from Durban/Pietermaritzburg during the day: Follow the N3 north, passing Pietermaritzburg and Mooi River. Take the 2nd Estcourt turn off which is the Estcourt North/179 glide off. Turn left onto the Loskop road and travel 30kms to the R600. Turn left and continue for 15kms. Turn right through the green walled entrance and follow the road down past the Drakensberg Boys Choir for 1km, through the security gate to Reception. How to get here from Durban/Pietermaritzburg after dark: Follow the N3 north, passing Pietermaritzburg and Mooi River and Estcourt. After passing the Estcourt UltraCity Petrol Station, turn left onto the R74 to Winterton. Once in Winterton, turn left onto the R600 and travel for 28kms. Turn right through the green walled entrance and follow the road down past the Drakensberg Boys Choir for 1km, through the security gate to Reception. We recommend that you take due caution if stopping at the petrol station after dark as highjackings have occured in the area. How to get here from Johannesburg/Pretoria: Follow the N3 south to Harrismith. Turn left on the Bethlehem/Phutatatjhaba road, which will turn back under the highway, for about 5kms. Take the R712 left to Bergville/Phutatajhaba. Left again on the R74 to Bergville. Continue past Bergville, to Winterton. Turn right, once over the bridge, onto the R600. Travel for 28kms, turn right through the green walled entrance and follow the road down past the Drakensberg Boys Choir for 1km, through the security gate to Reception. How to get here from Bloemfontein/Bethlehem: Travel towards Harrismith and about 5kms before the town, turn right onto the R712 to Bergville/Phutatajhaba. Left onto the R74 to Bergville. Continue past Bergville, to Winterton. Turn right, once over the bridge, onto the R600. Travel for 28kms, turn right through the green walled entrance and follow the road down past the Drakensberg Boys Choir for 1km, through the security gate to Reception. How to get here from Newcastle/Ladysmith: Travel on the N11 to Ladysmith. Travel through Ladysmith and get onto the R103, old Durban highway, for about 2kms. Take the Bergville road right and travel for 8kms. Turn left onto the R600 to Winterton. At the T Junction turn left into Winterton. Once in the town, take the first turn right onto the R600 for 28kms. Turn right through the green walled entrance and follow the road down past the Drakensberg Boys Choir for 1km, through the security gate to Reception.
