The Cavern is a holiday resort offering you Drakensberg accommodation in the KwaZulu Natal region. Named after the "Cannibal Cavern", it is situated on 3000 hectares of private mountain reserve adjacent to the Ampitheatre Royal Natal National Park - a World Heritage Site.

This stunning full board Drakensberg resort has won numerous accolades and awards, giving you sound peace of mind. Superior suites, Superior rooms and standard accommodation are available to guests, all offering spectacular views of the surrounding valleys, forests and mountainside. The Superior accommodation is set away from the resort, in tranquil gardens, giving you magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.

The Cavern is set in a secluded valley beneath the massive sandstone cliffs of the Northern Drakensberg. The thatch accommodation and facilities blend beautifully with the natural surroundings of the area. The Cavern is home to numerous Bushman paintings, 213 species of birds, 150 species of trees and numerous wild animals. As a nature lover, this would be your ideal location.

The Cavern is a Drakensberg holiday resort offering two types of accommodation (Standard and Superior) which have been rated as "Superior" by the Automobile Association (AA) of South Africa.

Superior Suites

With superior finishings and fittings our superior suites are nests of tranquillity, each with its own private fireplace, patio, TV and barfridge.

They have magnificent views of the surrounding mountains with the sounds of waterfalls and streams rushing through indigenous forests.

Superior Accommodation

Our finely appointed Superior accommodation has magnificent views of the surrounding mountains with private patios to soak up the sun, listen to the sounds of forest streams and relax in our mountain wilderness. Superior rooms have a TV and bar fridge.

Standard Accommodation

Our Standard accommodation is set in lush garden landscapes with a vibrant mix of indigenous planting, filled with the sounds of birdlife.

Each room has a patio to soak up the sun and enjoy the mountain splendour.

Drakensberg Activities

This Drakensberg resort offers guests daily guided hikes to such wonderful destinations as Thonsela Cave, Cannibal Cavern, Echo Cave and Sungubala amongst others. For the more energetic, walks are organized to the Tugela Gorge and to the top of the Amphitheatre. The Cavern offers an extensive range of sport and recreational facilities, from guided walks to horse trails through splendid scenery, jeep trips and trout fishing in five well stocked dams.

The Cavern is located in the Northern Drakensberg, 3.5 hours from Gauteng and 3 hours from Durban on excellent tarred roads.

Our luxurious “Forest Retreat” nestles happily on the edge of the Cavern’s beautiful Fern Forest, an ecosystem steeped in history. About 200 000 years ago, during a warm wet period, Afro-montane forest stretched all the way from the equatorial East African highlands to the Cape, covering most of the eastern half of the country.

So while your body enjoys the physical pleasures of care and cosseting, let your spirit fly free in our fabulous forest.

TREATMENTS
Treatments are carefully planned to accommodate the needs of each guest. We ask that you always allo 15 minutes prior to your appointment in order to minimize unnecessary delays. All times quoted are inclusive of changing into and out of treatment garments.

Children are welcome under parental supervision – please respect the privacy of other guests.

CANCELLATION POLICY
We would be grateful if guests would make any changes or cancellations at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled treatment time. Treatments cancelled after this time will incur a cancellation tariff of 100% if the appointment cannot be filled. If you wish to change or cancel an appointment please contact the Retreat directly. Please note that as a courtesy to all our clients a prompt appointment schedule is adhered to. Late appointments will be completed in the allocated time and the fee will remain unchanged.

A soak in Essie marine crystals and a relaxing foot massage conditioning neglected feet. 30 minutes.

ESSIE SPA FOOT MASSAGE
A soak in Essie marine crystals followed by an exfoliating foot scrub and deep relaxing foot massage with ylang-ylang oil. The rich hydration replenishes and softens hard-working heels, lavishing a rich and healing action on the skin. 30 minutes.
